How would you explain to your parents what public relations is?  Provide an example to help them understand.

Public relations is the flow of information between an individual person or an organization to the public.  An example is any sort of company has a public relations specialist who speaks to the public on behalf of the organization. This person speaks at conferences on behalf of the group, works with the press, and is the voice of employee communication.

An example is below:

This is a very recent event that happened.  The public relations specialist in this story is Eau Claire Fire Department Deputy Chief Scott Burkart, he spoke on behalf of the fire department to the press, and gave information regarding the fire and deaths to the public.  Most if not all organizations have a PR to worry about dealing with the press.  The PR however doesn’t just appear when bad news arrives, they persuade the public or others interested in the organization to maintain a certain point of view about it.  The PR is a very important and necessary role in every organization whether they are trying to persuade someone to their view point or are giving information out to the public about a tragedy.
